If you want to make a better impact on your health, the environment, and a better life for future you and future generations, start with the simple changes. One simple change you can make in your daily life is switching to reusable bags and getting rid of the single use plastic bags. Whether it is in the bag you use for getting groceries, fridge/freezer storage, or just for chips on a road trip.
Reusable bags have many advantages. They are eco-friendly, cost efficient, durable, versatile, and easy to clean, just to name a few. Sure, reusable bags might cost a little more upfront, but they make up for it in no time. It’s a one time cost that will last years and years to come. Not to mention how much better they are for the environment. No more plastic bags floating in the ocean, hurting wildlife, and destroying the planet that we call home. Just imagine how much less waste it is for the environment and not to mention on your pocket as well.
The first swap I made was to stop using the disposable bags you get from the grocery store. Instead I went and got two types of reusable bags. The first was a set of bigger, heavy duty bags that had a sturdy bottom and are great for holding/carrying all the heavier items. When they aren’t being used they fold up flat and take up little space. The second type of reusable bags fold up really small and you can tuck them away in your purse, clip it from your keys or even put it in your pocket. These bags I like to use for the meats, produce and some of the loose stuff. I even use these for when I go clothes shopping or really any kind of shopping.
The second swap was for silicone storage bags over disposable single use ones. I did get two different types of silicone bags. The first set of silicone bags come in multiple sizes, resealable and are great for fridge or pantry items. I use these ones for chips, grapes, and sandwiches, just to name a few options. The second set are freezer bags. They have a resealable top as well and come in multiple sizes. These are great for freezing fruit, veggies, and even soups or broth. Both types of bags are very easy to clean and you can use them over and over and over again. I would however stay away from storing onions in these bags unless you have a secret to getting onion smell out.
By making these simple changes in your daily life, you can help the environment and eliminate so much waste from the oceans and the planet. Some of those endangered species could no longer be endangered. The dumps would have less chemicals leaching into soil and air. Which means less chemicals leaching into your body as well. Make the conscious choice to start using reusable items and limiting the waste created. Start with a simple, affordable choice and switch the reusable bags. One of the bonuses of switching to reusable bags is that they come in a variety of designs. They come in solid colors, or in your favorite designs. Be a part of a better change so that one day it can be a better place for everyone.
